Day 2 Sydney

Back again!   Luckily!!!!
Leah tells me I didn't send the link to the blog - she knows,  I haven't got a clue - so she fixed it up for me.    Apparently,  she sent you all an email with the link.   You should be able to access my blog now.   If you can't,  take it up with Leah,  I won't know what you're talking about!!!

Forgot to mention yesterday that Virgin have machines now where you check in (that's fine),  and check your luggage.   Didn't print the luggage tag first off,  so couldn't check the bags in!    Went back to the machines,  missed the bit to print the tags,  asked for help,  finally all ready to go!    Now there's a queue!!!!!   Anyway,  we made it safely aboard,  and so did our suitcases!

Quiet day today.   Caught the bus to Avalon to see Aunty Nancy and Alan.    They are now living in a nursing home - Pittwater Palms - in Avalon.   They are in 'assisted care',  where all meals are provided,  either in the dining room or in their room;  someone cleans and tidies their room,  as well as showering them;   food is supplied.   Aunty Nancy was upset because there's no room to entertain; we sat at the table,  she had nothing to offer us apart from a cup of tea;   not what she's used to!!
They have a double bed,  2 recliner chairs,  traymobile,  TV and unit,  small desk,  kitchen table with 4 chairs,  bar fridge,  small cupboards and a sink,  in an L shaped room;  ensuite is separate.   It's so small they can walk around holding onto the furniture for support!   Entertainment,  outings and activities are provided,  but I don't think they've done much since they moved in in July.
Alan has had two spells in hospital.   Problems with his lungs.   He's still mentally ok,  but not physically.    Poor Aunty Nancy is getting vague,  and has trouble remembering who everyone is.   Physically,  she has slowed down too.   Was great to see her and talk about old times,  but we came away quite upset at where they are and what the future holds.

I'm going to include some photos from the spider exhibition yesterday.

We found these bright coloured spiders in Western Australia,  on Alan's niece's property near Mandura.   They're rare and hard to find,  as they live under leaves on bushes.

That's it for tonight.

  1. Thanks Maureen, you're doing great, I'll tell Pam spiders are our friends, I'm sure she will put them in the same category as our friendly snake and be very inclusive. You are a good girl visiting Aunty Nancy, even if it may be upsetting, I'm sure she appreciates the efforts you've made. Keep up the good work with the blogging, with photos included....we will rate it out of 10 when you've returned. Hope you and Al stay cool in the upcoming heatwave in Sydney, love Pam and Vernon xxxxx
